Week 82

This week has been crazy! Our missionary schedule changed and now the groove of things are thrown out of wack. It is alright though because the only constant in the Lord's church is change.

On a different note the work has been moving! We are working hard in Highland Valley on the trust of the local members. It is awesome! I love being a missionary. The more I invest myself in serving the Lord the more I love Him and His children. We are talking to more people and the work is moving forward!

No pics this week, but here's a short video of my companion and I.

Elder Alger's birthday gift to the family

Josh sent this to the missionaries in our ward for his birthday.

I am Elder Josh Alger from the Copper Canyon Ward. I need you to do something for me tomorrow! Please go to my family's home tomorrow between 3 and 6:30 pm and give my family 10 copies of the Book of Mormon. I need you to commit them to write their personal testimony of the Savior in the front and then pray to know who to give it to. Set up a time in 2-4 days from now to follow up with them personally and individually. Persistently follow up until every member of my family has kept the commitment. If they are slacking email me and I will hold them accountable. Be sure to say that I sent you and that I love them. I want my family to be the best member missionaries in the ward, and I know they can be, they just need high expectations and high love from both me and you as their missionaries. Please at least go by my place tomorrow even at 8:30 pm if you have to. It is my birthday tomorrow and this is my birthday present to them.

P.S. If you are on bikes someone can take you and your bikes home in the Mormon Assault Vehicle (our 15 passenger van). Just ask and they should know. ;-)

We all took on the challenge and had wonderful experiences sharing our love and testimonies with our friends and neighbors.

Week 81

Life is Crazy!
We did a whole lot this week. We met with members of the ward. Gave inspiring messages, lots of Hugs and tears. Lots of rain and hail. But most importantly a mighty change of heart. I have found new faith in doing the work of the Lord. I pray harder with more sincerity and more real intent to do Everything he needs me to do. I have found the URGENCY of the work. The Lord needs us all to help everyone in the world gain peace in this life and eternal life in the next!

I love you All! 😁

Week 80

Ramona is very rural and hilly and with all of the abundance of rain recently, very green. It is beautiful and almost everywhere has a wonderful view. I am now in the Highland Valley ward, which is a very solid ward by the way. We are doing some major adjusting though. Elder Young, my new companion, and myself are both new in the area. They call it white washing, when both companions do not know anything about the area prior to the transfer. So we are catching up, trying to meet
everyone as soon as possible. It is exhausting and the days are long but we both love it.

Elder Young is a great companion. He is a hard worker and always striving to be better. He is also a red head, so that is a plus 😂. I have learned that the work moves forward best when I am with an
analytical minded companion. Thankfully Elder Young fits that description. 😊

I am so glad to be out here on my mission. We had an experience the other day that I wanted to share. Elder Young and I are very good at teaching together but we are both also not very good at talking to everyone. One evening we said it out loud and decided to make a goal as a companionship to talk to everyone that night. We said a prayer asking Heavenly Father for strength and we started walking. We saw this guy and we knew we had to talk to him. It was dark and he was pretty tatted so we were naturally a bit timid at first but we followed through with our commitment. We stared up a conversation and it was a bit awkward at first but as we went on we were able to talk about his biking group which shares Christ with other outlaw biker groups. It was awesome and definitely an answer to prayer, with him not rejecting us off the bat. I love my Heavenly Father and I now have an even stronger testimony that he truly loves me and all of us. 😁

Week 79

So, today I got transferred to Ramona so I had to say goodbye to all of the great people in Poway. But I am excited for what is to come. Here are some pics of what happened this week. I have like zero time to email because of all the crazy.

Splits with Josh Orton and Brother Casados after teaching a lesson.

I found Jeff and started teaching him a year ago and now after a year of enduring he finally was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
And he asked me to baptize him!

Week 78

The holidays really hit us hard this week. No one came to church, likely because they all stayed up to an unreasonable time the night before, and we did not teach a whole ton of lessons. But we are recovering. I also have a new companion. Elder Jensen got moved to Arabic work to help out a new Arabic missionary and I have Elder Fallon, an ASL (American Sign Language) missionary. He will be my companion for at least the next 7 days. We are loving having our recent convert come out with us. And she loves it too. She is truly converted. That is all for now. Remember the missionaries in your ward need you. Help them in any way you can and I promise they will help you.
Love,
Elder Alger
